Auki Domain NFT Campaign Part I: Domain Setup and Minting

What are Auki domains?

Just as we visit web domains to understand and interact with the digital world, robots, physical AI, smart glasses, and other devices like your phone will visit Auki domains to understand and interact with the physical world. They're essentially 3D maps of physical spaces, and are accessible by any device or application that connects to the Auki network.

What's the NFT angle?

It doesn't cost anything to create a domain and use it with apps like McKenna, Auki’s AR domain decorator, but to get rewarded for your domain's daily active users, you'll need to burn 3,000 $AUKI tokens and stake an additional 3,000 tokens for your domain NFT. When you mint your domain as an NFT, ownership of that domain comes on chain. Staking will then make you eligible to earn rewards when others visit your domain.

How much are the rewards?

Rewards for domain NFTs will be distributed weekly on Tuesdays.

>0 avg weekly DAU: 50 $AUKI/week

5 avg weekly DAU: 350 $AUKI/week

10 avg weekly DAU: 1,000 $AUKI/week

For our community of early adopters who mint and stake for their domains during the first month, we'll airdrop you an additional 3,000 $AUKI to reimburse the burned amount, making your domain NFT essentially free (limited to 2 domain NFTs per wallet and per Auki console account/organization).

If your domain is in a high-traffic area and you're regularly getting more than 10 avg weekly DAU, let us know on Discord and we can chat about additional rewards/grants for you.

Social media bounties

Please post cool content about your domain on social media! And then drop the link in the #community-posts channel on Discord. Every week, we'll choose the best domain-related content on social media to win a 5,000 $AUKI bounty.

Sounds fun, how do I get started?

Before you can mint a domain NFT, you need to first set up a domain.

  1. Create an account via the Domain Management Tool (DMT) app (available on iOS 16+ or Android 13+) or the Auki console.
  2. Create a domain and select a domain server to host it.
  3. For best results, you can buy portal kits (QR codes) from the Auki shop. Alternatively, generate them in either DMT or the console and print them yourself at 100% scale. Note that AQR codes will work with app-free experiences whereas the original portal kits won't. More on this in Part II of the campaign.
  4. Place portals around your space, typically a few meters apart. At least one must be on the floor — this will define the origin of your domain with coordinates (0, 0, 0).
  5. Scan your portals into the domain using the DMT app. The video below contains screen captures from an older version of DMT, but the basic steps and principles are the same.

Minting a domain

Minting a domain NFT begins in the Auki console.

  1. Navigate to Domains in the Auki console.
  2. Click Connect Wallet and follow the steps to connect your wallet.
  3. Click +Bind Wallet to associate the wallet and the domain NFTs in it with your Auki console account. You'll need to sign a message to complete the binding.
    • You can bind multiple wallets to your console account.
  4. Click Mint on the domains page. You can find the mint button by scrolling to the right on the domains page after binding your wallet.
    • Minting a domain NFT will burn some tokens. Currently it's 3,000 $AUKI tokens for burning and another 3,000 for staking, but those numbers are subject to change.
  5. First approve $AUKI for burning and then click mint NFT to trigger the contract interaction. You'll see the domain NFT in your wallet as soon as the transaction goes through, but it'll take a few more minutes for it to show up in the console.
  6. If it hasn’t appeared in the console, wait a few minutes and then refresh. Now on the domains page, you can scroll over and confirm which wallet owns the NFT.

Staking tokens

Remember you'll have to stake tokens as well to earn rewards, and this also requires a couple of transactions.

  1. Navigate to Domains in the Auki console.
  2. Click Staking and approve the $AUKI for staking.
  3. Open the staking modal again, you should see your staking status updated to staked in the console. If not, you may need to refresh the console.

Now you'll start earning weekly rewards based on your average daily active user count for that week, which you can track on the domain page in the console. You can also come back to the staking page to claim your rewards. Active users are counted based on unique devices that visit your domain.

What can you do with domains?

Daily active users can be people viewing your AR experience in McKenna or using Gotu if you've got a larger domain with points of interest users can navigate to. We'll post guides on how to use these apps in parts II and III of the Domain NFT campaign.

The ecosystem is growing and domains will soon have many, many more use cases. Whether it’s robots or smart glasses connecting to your domain to find their position, or a collaborative AR experience in a domain-enabled app built by an Auki ecosystem developer, this is only the beginning.

So, what will you do with your domain?

About Auki Labs

Auki is building the Auki network, a decentralized machine perception network for the next 100 billion people, devices and AI on Earth and beyond. The Auki network is a posemesh, an external and collaborative sense of space that machines and AI can use to understand the physical world.

Our mission is to improve civilization’s intercognitive capacity; our ability to think, experience and solve problems together with each other and AI. The greatest way to extend human reach is to collaborate with others. We are building consciousness-expanding technology to reduce the friction of communication and bridge minds.

About the Auki network

The Auki network is a posemesh: a decentralized machine perception network and collaborative spatial computing protocol, designed to allow digital devices to securely and privately exchange spatial data and computing power to form a shared understanding of the physical world.

The Auki network is an open-source protocol that powers a decentralized, blockchain-based spatial computing network. Designed for a future where spatial computing is both collaborative and privacy-preserving, it limits any organization's surveillance capabilities and encourages sovereign ownership of private maps of personal and public spaces.

The decentralization also offers a competitive advantage, especially in shared spatial computing sessions, AR for example, where low latency is crucial.
